Focus. On What Matters.

I recently read an article about multitasking and the research is clear: people can't actually multitask. Psychologists have shown that people can only attend to one task at a time…and you can only think about one thing at a time. So we can sing, or we can read, or we can type–and though we might be able to switch back and forth quickly and pretend to multitask–we're really just doing one thing. This made me realize if I'm really only doing one thing, I need to focus.

In order to pay attention to something, I need to be able to sense and perceive it. Here are a few examples I picked up from the article…

If you're looking for your watch, you can hear it if you're within 20 feet of it. If you're walking your dog at night, you can smell the blossoming honeysuckle. If you want to feel a person, you may not have to touch her. However, if your attention is divided, you'll likely miss things you don't know you're looking for.

If you're looking for the good in life, focus. And it'll appear clearly the more you pay attention to the thing that means the most.
