Happy Thanksgiving

Personal

Every year my family sits around the table at Thanksgiving and says for what they’re most thankful. It’s all very Hallmark Special-ish, but has come to be one of my most favorite times of the year. Without fail, my family turns to me and rolls their eyes (except my sweet mother) because they know what’s coming: tears. I’m the eldest of five children, take control of my siblings, and can be a little rough-around-the-edges when dealing with them (When’s the last time you showered?…The only grade you’re allowed to bring home is an A+!…The Goodwill called and wants their clothes back!), but I’m fiercely protective. When it comes time to verbalize how thankful I am for them, I cry.

And it’s one of those dirty, scrunch-my-face-shake-my-head kind of cries. It’s worse than this:

Later today I plan on sitting around the table and thanking my family and husband for dealing with me. Sometimes I’m a tough person to love, but it makes me realize just how lucky I am to belong to them. I feel like each of them–in their own Jacob the Wolf way–has imprinted me. And, boom. Twilight just made an appearance on the most thankful day of the year. THAT’S HOW I ROLL.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

Sounds like a great family tradition, agreed that it is straight hallmark. Funny: I’m the youngest of five kids. Got to love large families!

LOL…Oh gosh…perhaps all of us here should be thanking you Jasmine…for showing so many of us the ropes, filling us with knowledge (including how to bring up twilight on Thanksgiving) and showing many of us how to walk with grace even when it seems impossible to do so. Happy Thanksgiving!

Love the take-no-prisoners but fiercely protective attitude of being the eldest. I’m the eldest myself and my mother once thanked me for that very attitude (my youngest sister told her I would not let them get away with "stuff". I am grateful for being the eldest! Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Wow ! It’s like you took all the thoughts out of my head and posted them on your blog, except I’m the oldest of 9 and live in Puerto Rico. Later on I too will be thanking them for… Everything. Us, who are difficult to love, love back in huge amounts. Happy thanksgiving from the Caribbean.

I think Thanksgiving is beautiful. We do not have this here in Switzerland, but someday i will make a thanksgiving at my home. Its so important to be grateful for what we have! And what a good occasion to have your family at your home and just give thanks for everything! I just love it!
