Royal Hawaiian Hotel Wedding : Marissa+Jeremy

Photography

It was a reoccurring theme to their wedding day. Every person who spoke to or of them said the same thing: Marissa and Jeremy invest in relationships. Together they make anyone who crosses their paths feel like the single most important person in the world. It’s a gift they share.

Marissa is a fan of gift-giving, regularly hosts game nights, and thoughtfully prepares a spread of themed goodies when friends visit. It’s been said that Jeremy was the type of kid who had the coolest toys and the freshest shoes growing up, but he was the first to share everything he had. He currently shares his frequent flyer miles, making him inordinately beloved by his best friends and wife…who doesn’t like first class?

On their wedding day, Marissa and Jeremy walked the tiled hallways of The Royal Hawaiian hand-in-hand. Every few steps, friends and family stopped them to express how happy they were. The couple looked into everyone’s eyes and smiled, listening intently to every word. It’s this dedication to sincerity and love that makes them a beautiful couple. Inside and out.

Riss and Jer…Mahalo Nui Loa! I just Googled how to say thank you very much in Hawaiian, but I still don’t think it embodies how I feel. My heart melts in gratitude for your kindness and care for us…and it was a joy to document your first day as husband and wife. Thank you for making us feel like treasured guests (with fancy cameras) and treating us like family. Hope you’re enjoying Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Paris…I love following your adventures on Instagram! Much Love and Appreciation… j*

On the morning of their wedding, I woke to catch the sunrise on Oahu…the sky was brilliant shades of gray, blue, and pink…which matched well with the bridesmaids’ dresses…

I loved Marissa’s attention to detail and her passion for pretty things…

If Marissa’s niece is anything like her auntie, the shoe addiction will start young…

Just after the groom prepared, I met up with him on The Royal Hawaiian property, just moments before The First Look…

Jeremy’s reaction to seeing his bride before the ceremony was priceless…

Here’s JD’s angle from the First Look…

With extra time for wedding photos, we roamed The Royal Hawaiian and enjoyed the beauty of Oahu…

This is one of my favorite images from the wedding day…I mean, just look at these adorable flowergirls…I mean, com’on!!

The Royal Hawaiian hotel is one of the oldest buildings on Oahu and though it’s known for being pink, I was fan of the beautiful tiles…

Marissa…oh, go on…

With a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean, the ceremony location proved to be simply lovely…

Officially husband and wife!!

Marissa’s attention was in full effect for her wedding reception…

The First Dance…

The couple had some amazing speeches that night…with friends like their bridal party, they’ll live a rich and full life…

I’ll end of this note because the night was filled with toasts, well wishes and cheers of epic proportion…

    Dear Jasmine,

I recently flew out to O’ahu, and shot a wedding in Waikiki at a hotel near the Royal Hawaiian. As much as I persuaded otherwise to have pictures done on a quite, shady and grassy area, the bride really wanted their first look and portraits done out in the 2pm sun and CROWDED (I’m talking 10’s of thousands of people) Waikiki beach. ‘That’s why I had a beach wedding…’ she said. I really felt like, even after my reasoning with her on lighting, that I didn’t have a choice.

It wasn’t until weeks after that she was disappointed by the pictures, and that I ‘crushed her dreams’ anyways. Of course, the only ones she ‘LOVED’ were the portraits and wedding party pictures we took in said quiet and shaded area. She even asked me if I could photoshop out the hundreds of people (that we tried to creatively hide or 1.2 aperature bokeh out ;).

I was SO happy to see your Royal Hawaiian wedding this morning. I’m sure they mentioned doing some beach pictures, right? How did you approach it in such a crowded area? How do you let the know softly on their wedding days that their ‘dreams’ aren’t going to be the best reality?

    Warmly,

    Dream Crusher.
