3 Ways to Increase Your Engagement

Are you struggling to get followers to engage with your posts, Stories, and Reels?

If you’ve been around the block with me, you know when it comes to building engagement I preach the importance of showing up on social media consistently

Okay… But what if you’re showing up every day, and STILL not experiencing growth in your engagement? I get it. You’re not alone.

Social media is a roller coaster ride that many would rather not get on but no matter how it feels, it remains vital for marketing and growing your business.

3 Ways to Increase Your Engagement

Here’s the tea… Showing up consistently is an absolute MUST, however, you’ve got to take a look at how you’re showing up.

Are you just posting to check it off the list and call it a day, or are you incorporating intentional strategies focused on increasing your engagement?

Perhaps your experience is somewhere in-between. Either way, I’ve got good news for you:

>>Increasing your engagement is easier than you may think.<<

In fact, if you’re struggling with low engagement, here are three ways you can start increasing engagement, TODAY!

  1. Focus on your audience (It’s not about you, it’s about them)

It’s time for a quick audit. I want you to take a moment to read or watch a few of your recent posts, Stories, and/or Reels. How many times did you type or say, “I” or “Me?”

Now do your best to view your content through the eyes of your followers. Do you think they’re learning more about you and your business or are they feeling valued and seen by you and your business?

Don’t get me wrong, both are important. Your followers are more likely to become customers and clients when they grow to know, like, and trust you. However–this may sting a bit…

>>The content you create for your business is not about you. It’s about your dream customer.<<

How then do you help your audience get to know you and make it about them at the same time? Great question!

Making your content about your audience doesn’t mean you should stop sharing about yourself or the business, it just means your content should always offer value to your audience by…

  • Entertaining,
  • Empowering, and
  • Educating them.

For example, let’s say you’re filming a Reel introducing yourself to new followers. Sure it’s technically about you but instead of just talking about yourself, you could use this Social Curator caption template as a framework to make it about THEM:

Since there are some new faces around here, I thought I’d take a quick moment to introduce myself! My name is, ___________ [your name] but some prefer to call me their __________ [fun titles that describe what you do (tax-time superhero/one-stop-shop for self-care/etc.)]. But enough about me! What’s a fun title you go by?

This introduction is great because it briefly talks about your business in a way that highlights what your dream customer is looking for and then invites them to engage back.

  1. Always use a Call to Action (CTA)

Real talk: if your followers aren’t talking back to you, chances are you aren’t inviting them to.

The best way to invite your audience to engage back is by telling them exactly what to do. The commonly used marketing term for this is, “Call to Action,” or CTA.

Every caption that you write should end with a Call to Action that encourages and makes it easy for your audience to engage. Here are some easy CTA’s you can start using today:

  • “Would you rather [X or Z]?”
  • “Share your thoughts in the comments!”
  • “Save this post for later!”
  • “Tag a friend that needs to hear this!”
  1. Make it easy for your audience to engage with you

Speaking of Calls to Action, one of the biggest mistakes business owners make is asking too much of their followers in their CTA’s.

Have you heard the phrase, “Make it easy to be a customer?” Well, this also applies to how you ask your audience to engage back with you. There are what I like to call big and small “asks.”

A BIG ask could look like, “Tell me about your biggest failure and what you learned from it.”

Be honest, if you found this question while scrolling would you stop and answer it or keep scrolling by? I’m gonna bet you’d scroll by faster than I can say, “Engagement.”

Let’s tweak the question above and make it easier to engage with. How about this…

“If you’re thankful for a lesson you learned from a recent failure, drop your favorite emoji below!”

When you make it easy for your audience to engage with you, guess what? They’re more likely to engage back!

There may not be a magic pill when it comes to increasing your engagement on social media, but when you show up intentionally and consistently you will see your engagement increase over time.

You don’t have to show up alone…
