A Step-By-Step Guide To Planning Instagram Posts In Just 30 Minutes Per Week

I often hear entrepreneurs not posting because they are worried about not getting likes or wonder what people will say about their content… And I’m like, STOP THINKING + START DOING.

  • The magic comes from action, not thought.
  • It’s time for you to take control, have a clear plan to showing up on Instagram, and get your account seen.
  • Hold your head high, stop thinking, and do the work.

>>My hope for this post is to inspire you to never run out of ideas, save you TIME, and give you a well of content that allows you to talk ABOUT your business without directly SELLING your business.<<

Let’s dive in!

To plan out your Instagram posts, we talk about “categories” a lot when it comes to content creation in the Social Curator Community.

It is recommended that you come up with 9-12 categories for your account. To keep it simple, Social Curator categories are the same every month.

*Remember, these are to be used as a guide and reference point, so you can modify them so they best fit your brand/business/personality!*

The Social Curator categories are:

  1. About Me
  2. Behind the Scenes/Tutorial
  3. My Why
  4. Personal Insight
  5. Inspiration/Encouragement/Motivation
  6. Benefits
  7. Showcase Product/Service

In addition to these 7 caption categories, we often suggest mapping out photo categories for your brand as well–photos that showcase your life to pair with these captions.

There is no “right or wrong,” but as an example here are my photo topics:

  1. Coffee
  2. My husband JD
  3. Our dog Polo
  4. Me as a business owner (speaking, teaching, etc)
  5. California (palm trees, Newport Beach, etc)
  6. Empowering quotes
  7. Me as a photographer (camera, shooting, etc)

Now we have 7 caption categories and 7 photos that our audience can expect to see from us. From here, we can simply:

  • Decide which caption template to use
  • Pick a category to match with the caption
  • Choose a photo topic to post alongside it

As an actionable tip for planning your social media content with these captions and photos, open up a notebook and check out the video below to see the diagram that will help you organize these steps!

This method helps with consistency, as well as shapes our grid to make it aesthetically pleasing.

>>Remember: consistency and predictability builds trust, and TRUST builds a brand.<<
