When I was 11 years old, I broke my tibia and fibula (yes, both) and sat in an ankle-to-thigh leg cast for six months. Crazy enough, I learned how to do things with just one leg.
Including but not limited to: RIDING A BIKE.
With just one leg, I yelled from the street for my mom to come out and watch me ride with just one leg and—on my most daring moments—no hands.
My mother ran into the street and shrieked for me to stop because she feared me being in a full body cast in no time.
Before you think this is a Look-Ma-No-Hands! note to #humblebrag please allow me to set the record straight:
- I believe that a tiny bit of incredible information or education can change the direction of your business (and life!).
- Someone else’s lessons can be your roadmap to quicker and more robust growth.
- Back in 2007, I promised God to share my entrepreneurial journey with anyone willing to care…16 years later, I’m just trying to make good on that promise.
A couple of weeks ago, I hosted my 7-Figure Mastermind in Newport Beach. This was the first time I’ve ever opened my home and while I was a bit nervous, it was—hands down—the best decision.
While I won’t get into the specifics of this incredible group of entrepreneurs (whip-smart, brilliant, generous, humble!), I want to share a three key takeaways from the event so you can apply them to your business.
MASTERMIND KEY TAKEAWAY 1: What Got Your Business to 7-Figures Won’t Get Your Business to 8-Figures.
This is the hardest concept to accept. That the grit, hustle, on-my-own, bust-down-wall approach that accelerated you to 7-figures will NOT be the thing that helps you grow. In fact, it’s the opposite. You simply shouldn’t do everything in the business. Heck, you shouldn’t be IN the business, you must work ON the business. The people you hire, the processes you create, and the systems you build must be different if you’re to scale. And that? That unwiring of mindset and perspective is hard. Which leads me to my next point…
MASTERMIND KEY TAKEAWAY 2: What You Resist, Persists.
When we ignore small problems, they turn into big ones. When we defer hard conversations, they turn into much harder conversations. When we push off decisions, the decisions often become even hard to make. In order to scale your business, you need to embrace every challenge as an opportunity to learn, and to address things (despite how daunting, awful, scary it feels) as soon as possible.
MASTERMIND KEY TAKEAWAY 3: You’re not Wrong/Behind/Alone, You’re NORMAL.
It’s easy to think that what you’re facing as an entrepreneur is siloed to just you. If you could just avoid that pitfall… If you could learn how to hire better… If you could have a partner who focused on operations… If could you just decrease costs and increase profits…
Listen, it’s not you. You’re not wrong/behind/alone…you’re NORMAL.
It’s normal to question, it’s normal to desire, it’s normal to could’ve/would’ve/should’ve our way through the build, so if it’s the norm, why do we tell ourselves that OTHER people are smarter, more equipped, or simply better at it?
Because it’s easier.
It’s easier to believe that they have something we don’t. But that’s hardly the case, if ever.
In fact, as mastermind members sat in my living room, the astonishing realization was that they admitted to feeling the SAME way and they were all facing the SAME issues.
So what does this truly mean? Oh, darling, you ain’t alone if you choose to connect with others who are building together. It’s a choice.
I am sharing this behind-the-scenes look of my mastermind because—more than anything—I know that you’re destined for something great.
Bigger than what you think is possible.
I hope this is your sign that this came to you at the perfect time, in the perfect way. You’re on your way to success, as long as you learn lessons from others and continue pushing onward.
Your friend,
j*
