How Locally-Based Businesses Can Use Social Media

Does your business revolve around a local market and you are not sure how to integrate it with your Instagram?

I thought so.

I receive this question from regional-based businesses all the time. Real estate agents, door-to-door salesmen, bakers, musicians, and more… Many believe a myth that social media marketing does not apply to them.

Usually, they spend a few months posting exclusively about their product or announcing their upcoming specials, and *crickets.*

Then they say, “Jasmine, social media marketing doesn’t work in my industry.”

The truth is, locally-based business CAN and SHOULD use social media to sell their local product or service. All you need to do is talk about who you are in relation to the thing that you sell.

How? Mix your personal life in with local news, and provide value for the locals, such as:

>>Benefits of the school that your kids go to…

>>The best coffee shops…

>>What’s happening at City Hall…

>>Where to get a great manicure…

Oh, friend, the point is to create so much locally-based content that your ideal client would be searching for, and hashtag your city so they can find you.

For example, if you are a real estate agent, don’t let your Instagram just be house listings (you know as well as I do that that’s what the MLS is for!). Why would someone follow you if they have Zillow?

Instead, talk about the differences between hardwood floors and linoleum, or how to increase the curb appeal of your home for under $5,000.  Talk about specifics of the neighborhood and local events that position you as the (unofficial) city rep! 😉

If you show your ideal client that you understand them, that you are apart of the community and are excited to share it, then you will be the obvious choice for them to hire your service or buy your products.

That, my friend, is how to flourish with a locally-based business using social media marketing.
