How to Get Followers to Stop Scrolling on Instagram

Slooooooow your scroooooooll.

Don’t you wish you could put that at the beginning of every Instagram caption to make your followers stop, look, and listen?

*If only it were that easy, right?*

Well, I may not have a one-line-does-it-all method, but I do have three ways to hook your audience and drive the momentum forward.

>>Using the right words can cause followers to hit the brakes on scrolling to see what you have to say.<<

*I’m willing to bet that you’re hooked on finding out about hooks, so let’s get to the good stuff, shall we?*

Identify a specific audience

Don’t make it harder than it needs to be, boo. Who is it that you’re trying to talk to?

The minute you figure this out, speak their language. Communicate directly to them as if you were having a face-to-face conversation rather than through a screen.

*This will have a megaphone effect, without the ear ringing aftermath.*

Reveal a “juicy share”

  • “Can I share a secret with you?”
  • “You’ll never believe what I’m about to confess.”

Admit it, friend. You’ve been hooked by statements like these before. We ALL have! That’s because they work!

These juicy shares are exactly that: JUICY. They’re intriguing, mysterious, and scroll-stopping. They make readers want to know the answer or click “read more” on the caption to find out your secret.

Ask an engaging question

Often, we put so much time and energy into creating an intriguing caption that we may forget about the most important aspect of social media: engagement.

Without engagement, does it really even matter if someone reads your caption or not? *Mic drop*

Remember, even a simple yes or no begins the two-way conversation! The dialogue doesn’t have to end there.

Use the KISS method when asking questions – keep it short & sweet. *You thought I was going somewhere else with that, didn’t you?* Make it reeeeally easy for someone to leave a response in the comments.

Asking an engaging question solicits an easy answer, which drives engagement and builds relationships. That’s a triple whammy!!

There you have it, Buttercup. Three types of copywriting hooks that’ll make someone stop scrolling, take a look, and engage with you.
