Why You Don’t Need More Followers to Make More Sales

There was a time in my business when I felt like nobody was listening. 

I felt like I was saying the same things over and over again on social media, and was worried that if I niched down, made a business offer, or if I had a product or service intended for one person, it wouldn’t be enough to drive my business sales. 

Since then, I’ve learned it's not enough to build the business that you want. 

Why You Don't Need More Followers

Pat Flynn (Founder of SmartPassiveIncome & SwitchPod) once told me, “Riches are in niches,” and he couldn’t be more right.

Let’s dig a little deeper into what this means for you… 

>>If you speak to everyone, you’re actually speaking to no one.<< 

But if you don't speak at all, you cannot complain about not getting sales. 

I see a lot of small business owners get in their heads and say things like, 

  • “I'm posting too much on social media.” 
  • “Nobody's responding.” 
  • “If I only talk about this one thing that I sell, people are going to get bored of the message.”
  • “If I had more followers I’d be making more sales.”

Something dangerous happens when business owners start telling themselves this kind of narrative… they start believing it’s true.  

When that happens, they stop showing up on social media to market their business, and that's the last thing that anybody should do.

Can you relate? Have you thought and believed these false narratives? 

If you’ve been thinking, “If I had 1,000, 10,000, or 100,000 followers, I would have more sales.” 

Allow me to deal it to you straight…

>>More followers does not mean more sales.<< 

Here’s why…

Let’s say you're not getting the sales you want right now, and you have 1,000 followers. 

If you're not getting sales right now, gaining 10,000 followers won’t magically result in an increase in your sales.

We have to learn how to get sales for where we currently are in our business. Until you do that, it won’t matter how many followers you have. 

In fact, I know many business owners who have significantly less than 10,000 followers that are making much more than users with over 10,000 followers.    

Making a sale is not as complicated as some may have led you to believe. Sales are simply:

>>Having a conversation with somebody who has a pressure point or a problem that your business can help with.<< 

Whether you’re selling…

  • Essential oils, 
  • Haircare, 
  • Graphic design services, 
  • Health coaching,
  • Clothing from your boutique…  

You name it. It doesn’t matter what you’re selling, because everyone has a problem they need solved. 

>>Your dream customer has a problem that only YOU can uniquely solve, help, and empower for them.<< 

When you share what you do through the social media content you create, it will do one of two things. 

  1. Attract people, or 
  2. Repel people. 

That’s it. That’s the goal. This may scare you, but this is the path to growing your business. Every time I post content on social media it's doing one of those two things, and I love it. 

If you're reading this, it leads me to think that I haven't annoyed you (yet). And if I haven't annoyed you up to this point, that tells me you’re feeling… 

  • Educated, 
  • Entertained, and/or 
  • Empowered. 

If you find value in the content I create for you, you're going to stick around. But equally, there will be people who read the first line, or even a whole paragraph and decide it’s not for them.

That's fine. In fact, it’s good news! I'm not here to be for everybody. I’m here for a small group of business owners who think, 

“Hey, she has something to share, and perhaps I have something to learn.”
