Oh no, not this. Trying…AGAIN?

On occasion, I write a letter to my daughter, sharing what (little) I know of the world in hopes she knows there’s a perfect purpose for her life. Can I share the letter with you? Because—deep down—I believe there’s a perfect purpose for your life, too. _____________________ … <3

Dear Luna, today was your first day of pre-kindergarten. Last night, I surprised you with special PJ Mask pajamas to guarantee you’d wake up feeling as strong as a superhero.

This morning I placed two blue bows in your hair and promised the day would make you stronger.

You clasped my hand as we walked onto campus, and I released you into an outdoor playground while your teacher introduced herself.

You nervously struggled with your English, and I wanted to jump in and translate from a distance.  But then I realized…

  • When you figure things out on your own, you build confidence.
  • If you watch and learn, you’re better prepared to jump in on your own.
  • Your struggles will make you stronger.

My heart broke for you because business life for me feels like the first day of pre-k, too.  People are speaking a different language, I don’t know how, exactly, to jump in, and–just like you–I get frustrated with the struggle.

When you returned home, you marched into my office and announced that a boy made you cry, they sang songs the wrong way, and your teacher called your papi to pick you up early.

It was a rough day.

I asked if you wanted to try again the next day.  No gracias, you replied.

I hugged you, and reminded you that even though it’s hard, we’re strong girls.  We’re brave.  We’ll figure out how to create joy in the puddles of mud.

Hold on, sweet daughter of mine, because one day we might just become our very own superheroes.

No pajamas needed,

P.S. Do you ever wish you could sit down with a wildly successful business owner and ask them: How did you build your business? How did you figure out what offers to create, how to price them… and who to offer them TO? On yesterday’s episode of the podcast, I sit down with Julie Solomon for an exclusive Q&A where she answers all of this and more. Listen to this short (<15 min) podcast >>RIGHT HERE<<.
