How I’m Wooing My Next Executive Hire; Building a Dream Team Starts with THIS

Have you ever watched 90 Day Fiancé?

Okay, stick with me here for a second. It’s a reality TV show where two people from different countries fall in love and have 90 days to get married once they arrive in the U.S. to secure a visa.

Whew. It’s messy. It’s romantic. It’s chaotic.

Now… what does that have to do with running a business?

Welcome to the Jasmine Star Show, where today, I’m giving you the business version of 90 Day Fiancé: an inside look at how I’m courting an executive hire for one of my companies. 💼❤️

This episode is part real talk, part personal growth, and part behind-the-scenes CEO confession.

I’ve spoken on the podcast before about hiring strategies—job descriptions, SOPs, KPIs—but this? This is different.

This is me letting you in on the messy middle. The not-so-polished process of identifying, pursuing, and wooing the RIGHT person to join our leadership team. And spoiler alert: it didn’t go according to plan.

Here’s what you’ll hear in this episode:

🫣 Why I debated even publishing this episode (hint: I’m risking public rejection)

💌 How I courted a former agency partner to join the team

🚪 What I did when she turned me down (and what I said in my DM)

🙌 Why I believe every “no” is just “not right now”

👀 How I literally scouted potential talent at church

💡 Why I think the right people are always watching you—and vice versa

Y’all, this is real. This is personal. This is about doing business in a way that’s aligned with your values, your gut, and your vision.

Here’s what I know: great hires don’t always come from resumes. They come from energy, alignment, and timing.

I clocked a former agency partner for months—after she helped train our alumni sales team—and knew deep down she was our person. So I slid into the DMs, initiated a convo, and told her what I envisioned.

A week earlier, she’d taken another job.

Ouch.

Did it sting? Of course. But I didn’t spiral. I CELEBRATED. That’s something I learned from my mentor James Wedmore—celebrate what you want, even if it’s not yours yet.

Because here’s the truth: I don’t hear “no.” I hear “not right now.”

Whether it's a sale, a pitch, or a dream hire… rejection isn’t failure. It’s redirection.

I believe the right person will walk through the right door at the right time. My job is to prepare the path and stay ready. 👣

I also believe you can—and should—recruit outside the box. At church, I noticed someone with incredible energy and presence. I don’t know her resume, but I know she’s got “it.” I trusted my gut and struck up a conversation.

Your next hire might be sitting next to you at a coffee shop, dropping gems on LinkedIn, or following you silently on Instagram. Stay open.

Bottom line? This episode isn’t a step-by-step on hiring—it’s an invitation.

An invitation to be brave. To risk the no. To follow the nudges. To trust your instincts. To believe your dream team is out there.

We don’t just build businesses. We build relationships, and the most powerful hires start with connection.

So here’s to rejection. To wooing the right people. And to building something beautiful—even if it takes a few awkward convos and a lot of trust along the way.
