Stop Playing Small: Rewrite the Story That’s Holding You Back

I want to ask you something… and I want you to be honest.

Have you ever told yourself a story that felt so true… you didn’t even question it?

Maybe it sounded like:

“I’m not ready.”

“I’m not good enough.”

“People like me don’t do things like that.”

Friend… I’ve been there. And in this episode, we’re breaking that pattern wide open.

Because what if the thing holding you back isn’t your strategy… your resources… or your experience?

What if it’s simply the story you’ve been telling yourself?

In this conversation, I sit down with Megan Hyatt Miller, and let me tell you—this isn’t fluffy mindset talk. This is practical, tactical, roll-up-your-sleeves kind of work. The kind that makes you pause mid-listen and think, “Wait… have I been choosing a small story this whole time?”

(Yeah. Same.)

We dive into what mindset actually means—because let’s be honest, it can feel like this big, vague, “just think positive!” kind of advice. But Megan breaks it down in a way that made me stop, grab my notebook (because yes, I take notes during my own podcast recordings!), and rethink everything.

Here’s the truth: your brain is constantly interpreting your life.

It takes facts—like how much money you’ve made, whether you’ve landed clients, or how far you’ve gotten—and it layers a story on top of those facts.

And those stories?

They’re designed to keep you safe.

Not successful. Not fulfilled. Not thriving.

Safe.

Which means… if you’re feeling stuck, playing small, or doubting yourself—it’s not because you’re incapable.

It’s because your brain is doing its job a little too well.

So what do we do about it?

We walk through a simple (but powerful) three-step process:

  1. Identify the story You can’t change what you’re not aware of. And most of us are running on autopilot.
  2. Interrogate the story Is it actually true… or just familiar? (Oof. That one hit me hard.)
  3. Rewrite the story Not with blind positivity—but with intention, belief, and evidence.

And here’s where things get real…

A lot of us try to skip step two.

We jump straight from “I’m not good enough” to “I’m amazing and unstoppable!”—and our brain is like, “Yeah… no.”

That’s why the work in the middle matters. That’s where transformation happens.

Inside this episode, I also share what I’ve been seeing behind the scenes while teaching a live mindset program to business owners—and let me tell you, the patterns are undeniable.

Whether someone is making their first $10K or scaling to multi-millions, the same question shows up:

“Am I good enough?”

So if you’ve been waiting for confidence before taking action…

If you’ve been questioning whether this will work for you…

If you’ve been telling yourself a story that keeps you small…

This is your moment to pause and ask:

What if that story isn’t true?

And more importantly…

What if you get to choose a new one?

Let’s get into it.
