Should You Share Your Secrets?

I was recently answering questions on an Instagram Live when Letty asked: “Should you give away all your secrets on social media?”

This was a question I had heard before.

There are always business owners popping into my DMs asking me similar questions:

  • What's the difference between free and paid content?
  • If I give away everything I know for free, then what would be behind the paywall?

And here’s my cold, hard answer:

>>I don’t believe in secrets.<<

Should You Share Your Secrets?

Maybe I developed that opinion as I grew up with four siblings, but that statement holds true in business, too.

I hate to break it to you, but there’s nothing under the sun that hasn’t been done before.

>>The people who get the lion's share of business are those who share something that no one else would.<<

Think about who you follow:

  • The influencer who “tells it like it is”,
  • The blogger who’s always “keeping it real”, or
  • The athlete who brings you behind the scenes of their “real life”.

What do they all have in common? *They’re not keeping secrets!*

Those people you trust are simply people that you feel like you know in some capacity.

These people have shared a piece of what they know, who they are, and why you should care.

>>Being 100% honest, raw, and real is the only way to get people to know, like, and trust you.<<

*And trust = sales!*

So, moral of the story? Create content that is true, authentic, and relevant. THAT is the one of the best ways to get people to pay you.

Sharing what you know, then offering ways, tools, or resources to make it happen with your help is how you can share everything you know and *still* make money.
