Have you ever felt lost in the vast expanse of the internet and struggled just to keep your head above water?
I’m here to tell you that you’re not alone.
There have recently been a lot of changes on social media platforms, like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. And with these changes comes an undercurrent of overwhelm.
These changes can seem to upheave your entire strategy and trajectory online.
The truth is, these changes will always keep coming and it will always make adjusting your approach a common and frequent occurrence.
However, the good news is that these changes offer new opportunities when we change our perspective and welcome these shifts with optimism.
Regardless of what it is you sell, I would bet that you want more exposure, more engagement, more conversations, and more sales. *Can I get an amen?*
But while we want all of these things, there’s one thing that’s important to remember:
>>Show up for the few. Build a foundation with the people who are interested in you now.<<
Your audience may not be as big as you would like, but if you have even one person paying attention to what it is you say, then you have the opportunity to build a foundation that will support growth in the future.
Choose to change your perspective and go deeper with those you already have attracted to your business.
Once you are serving your audience well, then you can aim to expand.
Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about what steps you can take to grow your small-but-mighty following.
#1 Create Relatable Content
With every piece of content you produce, consider if it invites people to know, like, or trust you.
The goal for everything you create should be to attract or repel those who see it.
I know that sentence may have sent a shockwave through you, because we all want to connect with every single person who comes our way,
But the reality is, you won’t be for everyone… And that’s ok.
Own what makes you unique and release the outcome of what other people think of you.
Wondering what types of content will draw the right people to you?
>>Establish content pillars around your area of expertise that you could talk about at the drop of a hat. Share what you hope to be known for and advice you often give.<<
In other words, “Build it and they will come.”
#2 Use Relevant Hashtags and Keywords
Did you know your instagram captions are now searchable? This is yet another way for the right person to discover you.
The strategy for hashtags and caption keywords is the same:
>>Use hashtags and keywords that would attract a dream customer, but contextualized by what you are sharing.<<
For example, if you share a photo of waves crashing along the shore, and you are a therapist, please don’t just use the hashtag #beach or #ocean. Instead, contextualize that photo for your Ideal Client and business.
Instead, you might reference how your coaching can calm the storm that exists in their life by using #griefcounseling or #marriagetherapist to talk about how a wave relates to your business. Within the caption, you might use the same phrases but expound upon the benefits of your services.
#3 Position Yourself as an Authority
You can be viewed as an authority in your space. *Yes, you.*
You do not need to know everything in order to establish expertise in your industry. In fact, you only need to know 10 percent more than the person you are speaking to.
Regardless of where you are in your wisdom and expertise, you have something to offer those who are just beginning.
You don’t need to be at the finish line or have 40 years of experience to be admired for your example by others.
You merely need to be a few steps ahead from the crowd.
How do you show people what you know and that you have knowledge they need? Show up on social media.
>>Your content is your credibility. Your feed, your portfolio. Share what you know and share it freely.<<
You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll become respected and viewed as someone extremely knowledgeable and admirable.
#4 Be Consistent
I know. I know. You get tired of hearing it, but if consistency wasn’t the ticket to achieving everything you want, I would step off my soap box.
You might not love the thought of creating content, and very few business owners do. But I would love to challenge you to shift your perspective from one of drudgery to one of commitment.
>>Don’t merely be interested in running a business. Choose to actively pursue a business.<<
It is this active pursuit that leads to consistency. Consistency builds momentum. Momentum makes you an unstoppable force.
Consistency doesn’t feel sexy, but it gets results.
You must do things a little differently to stand out from the crowd… And consistency is one of them.
Thankfully, you have help.
