The rain pelted on the hotel window, and gushing puddles formed on the streets outside. The plans I so carefully laid, washed away. Literally.
Have you ever been disappointed in what could/should/would be a perfect opportunity?
Back in 2024, I had a podcast interview scheduled with Leila Hormozi, but allow me to back up…
We met in 2023 for a podcast interview and I was painfully nervous, sweatily awkward, and cried during our interview. (I AM CRINGING ALL OVER AGAIN AT THE MEMORY…like, whyyyyyyy Jasmine whyyyyy?!)

When I look back at this picture, it’s with a mix of pride and embarrassment. I tried my best, but it wasn’t a strong performance.
I felt like a character from Sesame Street on Ice trying to perform next to an Olympic ice skater. A muppet on skates, if you will.
I wanted another try, I wanted to create an interview that she loved.
Leila was gracious and agreed to podcast again in 2024. And this time?
I WAS READY.
Back in 2024, she was making content while she was out for her daily walk. She’d talk to her videographer and together they’d create business content to share on social media.
Via Instagram Direct Message, I pitched her: Let me interview you on a walk.
Sun shining, walking shoes, and lots of business strategy. Sunglasses so big Elvis would be jealous.
She agreed, I flew to Las Vegas, and then a flash flood ruined my plans. I stared out of the rainy hotel room window like a scene from a low budget Hallmark movie.
“It was my chance,” I complained to JD over a bowl of steaming tom ka gai soup, “my chance to have a do-over…I DON’T WANT TO BE REMEMBERED AS THE ELMO TO HER KRISTI YAMAGUCHI!”
He DoorDashed our favorite Thai food to the hotel as a way to make me feel better, but he had little patience to my PBS references.
Leila and I tried reconnecting in 2025 a few times, but our calendars just never matched.
In November, I emailed to set another podcast date in 2026. I started early, I was ready, ain’t no stopping me…
No response.
I followed up in December. No response.
Earlier this month, I reached out to Leila via Instagram Direct Message and sheepishly asked if her team had gotten my podcast invite.
Turns out, I WAS EMAILING THE WRONG EMAIL ADDRESS. #elmostrikesagain
And guess what? We scheduled our next recording date…which is just a few days from today.
I’m writing you this note for two reasons:
- Reminder: Everything happens at the perfect time, and don’t stop asking for what you want; and
- I’m Selfish: Please send good vibes and your questions because I’d love to ask her what you’d find most valuable.
Here’s to skating on ice as Elmo…wearing Kristi’s gold medal,
Jasmine*
