Tired Of Not Sharing The Real Stuff

There are things many of us don’t admit publicly, especially not on social media.

As my friend Jamie said, “I’m bored of business owners not sharing the real sh*t they’re navigating behind the scenes…”

So here’s mine…

I’m at a point where Life threw me a pool floaty, an oxygen mask, and slowly turned to look at me in the backseat of her rollercoaster and whispered with a country drawl, BUH KHUL UP.

Then took a drag of her cigarette and went all gas, no breaks.

Despite my best attempts, my only option has been to hang on for dear life…and choose to enjoy the ride.

  • A newly-hired teammate ghosted us after three weeks in her position. Like, just disappeared. No contact, ignoring messages, left without a note. We were left to pick up pieces in her absence, and I felt confused. (We’ve since hired a new person and have chosen to believe everything is happening FOR us.)
  • I’m struggling with a mental block with my social content. It feels off, I feel off. Not only is this factually annoying, it’s secretly tied up with my identity as a creative entrepreneur. I feel like a painter who’s staring at a blank canvas with a palette of paint in front of me, but can’t will my brush to move. (But I’m still creating and posting every day because action is the antidote to feeling stuck.)
  • I signed a new consulting client. Things are under wrap right now as we build her brand and marketing strategy, but I AM SO EXCITED I LITERALLY FIST-PUMPED THE AIR LIKE I WAS FROM THE JERSEY SHORE when the contract closed. (Gym, Tan, Laundry.)
  • It’s hard saying no. I’m in a season where opportunities abound and I wish I could say yesyesyes like Oprah to them all. Instead, I’m choosing to stay focused. I’m reminding myself that less is more. But it really sucks sometimes. (Discipline > Distraction)

Like always, business is a mix of beauty, boldness, and bewilderment (let’s also throw in beguiling, beautific, bombastic because I LOVE ALLITERATION and I’m sitting with an open thesaurus), but I want to remind us (mostly me) that we’re not alone.

We’re the fortunate ones who get to choose this life, this business.

What a gift.

Brash and Brightly Yours (SOMEONE TAKE THE THESAURUS AWAY FROM ME),

P.S. Dropped a podcast I’m particularly proud of, “Action First. Confidence Later. (WHAT to do & HOW to do it)”… I walked through a conversation outlining how, precisely, I approach business building with a specific framework for the WHAT and HOW of success.
