Here’s three of the most important qualities a successful woman has from what I’ve experienced up close…

Number One: Successful Women Make Their Own Decisions
This one—hands down—is the most powerful characteristic every successful woman possesses.

Successful Women don’t wait and ask someone else. They don’t abdicate the decision to someone who knows more, or has more experience.

They get quiet, they trust themselves, and ONLY THEN (after deciding for themselves) will they seek insights from other people.

She can change her decision if she chooses, but it’s still HER, making the decision.

Number Two: Successful Women Give Themselves Permission
Permission is a crazy thing to talk about in the 21st century.

(It’s like this because for hundreds and hundreds of years women had to ask permission. For everything.)

Friend, it wasn’t until 1974 that a woman could buy her own house, on her own.

Let’s make this simple: Your own MOTHER likely couldn’t buy a house on her own.

We’re one generation removed from not being able to buy property.

We are the FIRST generation who’ve dared greatly…successful women have taken this legal right and sprinted toward their freedom.

They are no longer asking for anyone but themselves to choose what is best for them, their goals, their families, and their businesses.

Number Three: Successful Women Create a Plan (and schedules!)
Want to know a crazy fact?

Every time I’ve attended an event, was invited into a room, or given access to a think tank, the most successful woman in the room was the person running the show.

She was the one texting or emailing details. She arranged reservations. She asked for flight arrival times.

Successful women know a good plan gets results.

I have yet to attend an event with successful women where there HAS NOT been a timeline shared in advance.

I debated sharing this, but I got permission from Emma while I was at her house.

Emma Grede is a powerhouse. Not only is she the co-founder of Skims and Good American (as well as a lot of other companies), she’s an author, speaker, and podcaster.

I’m a member of a female professional podcaster group and we had wanted to get together in real life for almost a year. But nothing really came of it.

Emma joined the group and in less than two months, she planned the first event, hosted it at her house, sent a timeline for dinner (and also included an ending time).

I asked if I could take photos and videos of the event, and share my experience, and she replied, “Share away!”

This confirmed a pattern I saw again and again: The most successful women make plans and schedules to ensure every detail is considered and time is maximized.

Now, one last thing: I specifically mentioned successful women…I didn’t mention a SINGLE thing about money.

And while—YES—money is often connected to success, it’s not one and the same.

Making decisions on your own, giving yourself your own permission, and being in charge your own plan are all key tenents of success.
