I used to feel embarrassed by my failures.
I’m going to walk you through the mindset shift that it takes to turn your failures, which–*spoiler alert*–aren’t really failures… they’re BOMB lessons to get you closer to your success.
Can you relate to some of these “failures”?
- Clients canceling at the last minute
- Receiving bounced checks
- Making mistake after mistake
- Overestimating your capabilities or deadlines
- Wildly underestimating your worth
Just to name a few…
I can’t tell you how many mistakes I’ve made, and how many goals I haven’t hit.
Have you battled feeling shame or frustration over goals you’ve set that you didn’t hit? Simply put: it’s a bummer. I know how it feels, and it’s not fun.
As business owners, it’s really common for us to not hit our goals sometimes, but we don’t talk about it, so we can often feel alone in the struggle.
However, I believe feeling like a failure is one of the most important feelings as a business owner, because…
>>Failure is one of the most necessary parts of running a business.<<
Hold up–I think you need to hear that again:
Failure is necessary.
Friend, stop viewing failure as devastating. Failures are simply lessons we need to learn to get what we want.
Let’s dig a little deeper in an example…
If you sell homemade crochet scarves and set a goal to sell twenty of them in a month and you only sell eleven, there’s a reason for that. Perhaps:
- You didn’t market them enough,
- Your content was too focused on selling instead of serving your audience to better prime them for the sale, or
- You set the bar too high for the length of time you’ve been in business.
Whatever the reason, here are 3 takeaways I want you to learn when you don’t hit your goals:
- Identify what didn’t hit the mark so you can decide what to change next time.
- Even if you didn’t hit your goals, chances are you did something right.
- Look for the WINS!
>>It’s important for you to find the things that you did well (I promise they’re there), so that you know how to repeat them in the future.<<
These takeaways will set you up for long-term success!
It’s tempting to think you failed when in reality you learned how to get better.
Do you want to know the surefire way you will fail so that you can avoid it in the future?
>>The only way you can fail is if you stop.<<
Your mindset is EVERYTHING when it comes to goal setting. Toxic thoughts will hold you back from the things you want–not your failure.
Have any of these toxic thoughts crossed your mind?
- I’m starting too late.
- I’m too old.
- I’m too young.
- I’m too inexperienced.
- I’m too different…
We all have these toxic narratives that can hold us back if we let them.
>>The toxic thought you subconsciously repeat in the back of your head is the thing that’s keeping you stuck.<<
Let me deal it to you straight… There is someone doing the very thing that you want to do with less. You can choose to believe the toxic narratives in your head, or you can choose to take back your power and DO THE DANG THING!
Are you going to let your limitations stop you, or are you going to express gratitude for the lessons you learn and move forward?
Remember the day that you start marketing your business is not a sprint, it’s not a marathon… It’s an Ironman!
There will be ups and downs. There will be hills and valleys and mountains. There will be failures, and there will be successes.
You cannot have one without the other. They are all a necessary part of your journey.
>>There is no success without failure.<<
So now you have a choice to make. Stay stagnant to avoid failure at all costs, or…
- Fail with grace.
- Fail with a strategy.
- Fail together.
So, my friend, if you’re navigating a recent failure… I’m proud of you. If you’re celebrating a success… I’m proud of you.
Be grateful. Be proud. Most importantly, be ready, because no matter what… you need to keep going to hit your goals.
