When is the last time you opened your calendar for a little magic? A kismet opportunity? A chance encounter?
A few months ago, my therapist/executive coach encouraged me to block a few days off on my calendar in November.
Me: Why? For what reason?
Her: To recharge, change your environment, and ask yourself better questions…
Me: Okay, lemme try this again, but slower: WHHHYYY?
Dr. Leah went onto explain that—as entrepreneurs—it’s important to distinguish the types of breaks we take. She went onto explain the difference between a
- Rest (a completely glorious break to let your mind go to mush with sandy beaches, margaritas, copious amounts of guacamole and a heavy rotation of books and Netflix).
- Recharge (a time to get intentional about white space, time to reflect, and re-focus on building the bigger vision).
Back in September, JD, Luna, and I took a REST in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
…and then I blocked off November 12-15 for a RECHARGE…but didn’t have a plan. Or a location. Or anything for that matter. (This drove my type-a, vacation organizer, vibe master extraordinaire of a husband crazy.)
Me: We just have to leave blank space on the calendar and the right opportunity will find us!
And then a crazy thing happened: The right opportunity found us.
Two weeks ago, I texted my friend Brendon Burchard asking if we could chat 1:1 to discuss my future business plans and get his insights.
(Side note: I was terrified sending the text message…*he’s so busy…he’s so successful…I’m gonna bother him…I hate asking for help…*but I decided to just TRY because the worst he could’ve said was no.)
Him: What are you doing November 12-14? Join me and a small group in Napa.
AND BOOM JUST LIKE THAT THE BLANK SPACE ON MY CALENDAR THAT I LEFT OPEN FOR A MAGICAL RECHARGE WAS FILLED.
Yesterday JD, Luna, and I headed to Napa, California.
But the story doesn’t end here…in fact, I think it’s just getting started.
I, however, don’t think this is about just me. I’m writing this for you, for us.
I’m passing on the advice from Dr. Leah to block a few days off on your calendar for a business RECHARGE.
Don’t worry about the exact plan, just have enough faith that the right thing will find you on your journey.
I’ll keep you posted as things progress on my end, but I’d love to hear more about YOUR blank space…what dates will you mark off on your calendar to leave room for a bit of magic?
To the right opportunities,
j*
P.S. Pitching Brendon was awkward, but I pushed through because of my system (and practice) of pitching…if you want to learn all about my approach, I’m breaking it down on my podcast today >>HERE<<.
