Expectation vs. Reality of Being An Entrepreneur

When I first started my business I imagined a clean, beautiful office with pretty pens and perfect hair…

But instead, rocking a messy bun for 3 days in a row is the norm and my “style-worthy office”? Yea… it’s a bar cart from Target.

Years ago, I thought that my newfound “laptop lifestyle” meant working on the beach, toes in the sand, and a margarita in my hand…

But today, I’m working from my couch with a cold cup of coffee next to me.

I used to think if I created a website, told a few friends about my photography business, and started shooting, I would get clients…

The reality? Just because I built it doesn’t mean they’d come. 

In order to get clients, I needed to consistently showcase what I did on social media, network with other business owners, and put myself out there.

>>THIS<< is what it actually looks like.

The majority of my days are spent:

  • Answering emails
  • Attending meetings
  • Answering more emails
  • Planning future projects on social media
  • …did I mention answering emails?!

But I can’t complain, friend, and neither should you. Why?

>>Because doing the heavy lifting in my business means that I get to spend my entire life doing what I love.<<

Although completely different from the expectation, the reality is that I spend 80% of my time PLANNING the creation process, and 20% of my time creating it.… and I’m okay with that.
