Why Your Goals Should Scare You

Are you tired of being scared?

I don’t know about you, but the last couple of years have been scary, and I’m tired of feeling afraid.

I recently sat down to write goals for the year ahead.

Now, I’m normally the type of person that can’t wait to wrap up a year and set goals for the new one.

I don’t just love goals, I love the whole process of figuring them out, breaking them down, and banging them out in one sitting.

The goals and I are one… they just come to me. *Yup. I’m that person.* Well, normally I am.

This year was different.

Why Your Goals Should Scare You

On the back of this last year, I’m going to keep it real with you: Goals and I were frenemies.

I sat down to write them, but the usual spark I get just wasn’t igniting.

So I tried a new approach. I decided not to put the usual pressure on myself, and instead allowed myself to set goals over the course of a few days.

Even if the goals weren’t coming to me the way they did in the past, I still knew how important this process was for my future business.

I’m not going to lie. After the last couple of years, I really just wanted to set some goals that felt safe and comfortable, and then call it a day.

But then I realized that the minute I set goals that I know I’m going to accomplish, I won’t try as hard. Which is why…

>>Your goals should be so big they scare you.<<

When you already know what you want is in the bag, you won’t push yourself, because you won’t feel that same urgency, drive, feistiness, or hunger that motivates you to chase after your dream.

It’s easy to fall victim to the thought that, “The world is scary enough, I don’t want my goals to scare me, too!”

But I’m here to remind you of your power, and tell you that regardless of the day, week, or year you’ve had…

>>You are more capable than you give yourself credit for.<<

I was reminded of this when I came across a journal entry I had written after attending a mastermind event in Chicago. I reread my words, and quickly realized that the feelings I had expressed from 2019 were the same feelings I was having in 2022.

  • Uncertainty
  • Fear
  • Unworthiness

Keep in mind that my business doesn’t look anything like it did in 2019. *Thank God!* My business has actually grown exponentially since, so why am I still experiencing the same feelings of doubt, fear, and uncertainty?

Despite the accomplishments I’ve achieved and the growth I’ve experienced, my feelings are still the same as they had been before.

Yet none of the growth I’ve experienced since 2019 would have been possible if I hadn’t set goals that scared me, and let my feelings dictate my actions.

  • I didn’t give up.
  • I created a plan.
  • I wanted to show up in a very specific way… and I did.

Which is how I was able to 5X my business, despite how I felt

Don’t let your feelings get in the way of the action that you take.

This is it. This is your permission to DREAM BIG.

  • Dream in the midst of fear.
  • Dream in spite of doubt.
  • Dream amongst the uncertainty.

>>Let your dream and your goals be ignited by your feelings, but fueled by your actions.<<
