Be honest… Do you despise Reels?!
I’ve made the commitment to create Reels that involve dancing and having fun (despite the strangers on the internet who hate it… and despite my mother’s disdain) because I’m exploring.
I’m forcing myself to get curious, experimenting with how this marketing tool will help my business, and having fun along the way… even if they feel awkward-as-all-get-out when dancing alone in my office!
But I’m disciplining my marketing efforts, regardless of how I feel when people make jokes about my smooth-like-butter dance moves.
(Okay, smooth like FROZEN butter. But, still. Butter nonetheless.)
I can choose to be embarrassed and let someone else’s opinion stop my curiosity, exploration and (let’s be real) gritty hustle… or I can choose to play the music so loud it drowns out their opinions.
Yes, it may be time-consuming to learn and experiment with this tool… but the good news is that creating Reels just got a whole lot EASIER with Instagram’s release of Reels Templates, and I can’t WAIT to show you how to use them for your business.

>>Reels Templates are a game-changing feature that allows you to use the timing from another Reel to create your own.<<
This means it will save you a ton of time and effort when participating in a trend, because you won’t have to manually adjust your video clips to sync with the audio track you selected!
Keep reading, ‘cause I’m about to spill the tea on where to find them, how to use them, and how to create your own.
Where to Find Reels Templates
Finding Reels Templates is easy. When scrolling through your Reels Feed (by clicking the middle “play” button on the bottom of the app), search for Reels with the “Use Template” button over their Instagram handle. These are Reels available to use as a Template!
If you don’t have the Reels Template feature yet, be sure your Instagram app is kept up to date, and keep an eye out for this button in the future!
How to Use a Reel Template
- To use someone else’s Reel Template, simply:
- Tap “Use Template” on the Reel Template (above their Instagram handle). This opens a new page.
- Tap “Add Media” under the template to replace their clips with your own in your camera roll.
- Once all of your clips are added, tap “Next” to generate your Reel.
- If you’d like to change the section of your clips that is shown in each timing, simply tap on the clip you’d like to adjust and drag the white box where you’d like it to play, then tap “Done.”
- Once satisfied with your edits, tap “Next” to add filters, stickers, and text to your Reel.
- When finished, tap “Next” to write a caption and add a cover photo, followed by the “Share” button to share it to your feed.
How to Create Your Own Reel Template
This is an easy one: to create your own Reel Template, simply create your own Reel and edit it within Instagram! When you do, it will automatically be available for others to use as a template. How cool is that?
Even if you previously used someone else’s Reel Template to create it, all Instagram Reels will become templates for others to use, as long as they were edited within the app!
If you use a third-party app like inShot, iMovie, or Adobe to edit your Reels, they will not be eligible for Reels Templates because Instagram does not have the ability to read the timings of each clip.
There you have it, friend: how to use the Reels Template feature for your business!
