How to Build Momentum In Your Business When You Feel Stuck

We drove with the window’s down, the air sticky as we laughed our way past corn fields. JD (my husband and business partner) and I were in Grand Rapids visiting friends, and they insisted we take a dip in Lake Michigan.

So we packed up their car and listened to terrible 90s pop music as we made our way to the shore.

By the time we arrived, I had successfully talked myself out of swimming in the Lake (Fish scare me! I just washed my hair! The water is wet!), and told my friends I’d, instead, be the judge of their underwater handstand competition. JD rolled his eyes and dove headfirst into the icy water.

Twenty minutes later, everyone sat on the rocks trying to warm themselves (except me because, well, judges don’t mess with being wet) when JD looked down at his hand and realized he was missing his wedding ring. He lost it in the expansiveness of Lake Michigan.

Should I repeat that last part? LAKE MICHIGAN, also known as the largest freshwater lake in the world.

Undaunted, JD ran back into the lake and promised to find it. Again and again, his head dipped under the dark waters searching for the ring.

“It's hopeless,” I shouted from the shore. He ignored my calls until he raised a triumphant fist in the air, his laughter ricocheting off the waves.

He found his wedding ring.

I think of this story often when people tell me they feel overwhelmed in their business.

They don’t know the first step to take. They’re feeling buried underneath day-to-day business tasks, dinners to make and kids to homeschool, it’s not easy to get unstuck. And I get that. I really do.

There was a time in my career that I would feel so overwhelmed that I would just do nothing. I would think, “I don’t know how this works, I don’t know where to begin,” and then I would stop.

>>But, I’m here to give you a potentially hard pill to swallow: clarity comes from action.<<

Sitting around and feeling sorry for yourself won’t do you any good. Waiting for the ‘perfect moment’ to start won’t do your business any good. And making excuse after excuse so you end up doing nothing definitely won’t do anyone any good!

So take action… messy action, scary action, ugly action… just do SOMETHING! And your first action? To learn more about how to build momentum in your business when you feel stuck by clicking play >>HERE!<<
